Beyond the Lens: Honored to be Part of RAW at Caribbean Brushstrokes
It’s with immense pride and gratitude that I reflect on my participation in the recently concluded Real. Artistic. Worthy. (RAW) exhibition at the Caribbean Brushstrokes Art Gallery. This wasn’t just another show; it was a powerful and much-needed platform celebrating the vibrant and diverse expressions of male artists from Barbados and across the Caribbean.

To be one of 40 artists featured in such a significant exhibition was truly an honor. The energy within the gallery space was palpable, a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of every individual whose work adorned the walls. From painting and sculpture to mixed media and, of course, photography, the sheer breadth of artistic vision on display was inspiring.
For me, “RAW” resonated deeply. It speaks to the unadulterated passion, the raw emotion, and the authentic stories that we, as male artists, pour into our creations. In a world that often seeks to define and categorize, RAW provided a space for genuine, unvarnished expression. It was a powerful reminder that creativity knows no bounds and that the male voice in art is as vital and nuanced as any other.
The opening night on June 11th was a fantastic success, with a wonderful turnout of art enthusiasts and supporters. It was a joy to connect with fellow artists, engage in stimulating conversations, and witness firsthand the appreciation for the diverse interpretations of “male expression.” The exhibition has been extended to July 12th, allowing ample opportunity for the public to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Caribbean male artistry.
A huge thank you to the Caribbean Brushstrokes Art Gallery for conceptualizing and hosting this pivotal exhibition. Their commitment to showcasing and nurturing local and regional talent is truly commendable. And to all the other incredibly talented artists who shared their work alongside mine – Keseean Abrahms, Evan Avery, Nicholas Barnett, Brandon Best, Carl Blackman, Keith “Brooklyn” Blackman, Ahmad R Boodhoo, Virgil Broodhagen, Adrian Burnett, Kevin Cobham, Daniel Chrichlow, Shane Eastmond, Nikao Gibson, Mazare Gilkes-Trim, Shaquille Hewitt, Mark Hill, Mario Holder, Kwami Hunte, Cy Hutchinson, Neville Legall, Everick Lynton, Asher Mains, Alex Mars, Michael McChlery, Kamran Moseley, Jaryd Niles, Russell Padmore, Kamau Paul, Terrence Rupert Piggott, Ras Akyem-I Ramsay, Adrian Richards, SxDayz, David Spieler, Omowale Stewart, Sundiata Stewart, Aaron Trotman, Hugh Walker, Nicholas Ward, Chris Welch, Lindsey Whelan, Ronald Williams, Ronaldo Wiltshire, and Kraig Yearwood – it was a privilege to be in such esteemed company.

Being part of RAW was more than just exhibiting photographs; it was about contributing to a larger narrative, celebrating our shared heritage, and demonstrating the profound depth of Caribbean male artistic talent. I’m incredibly grateful for the experience and look forward to continuing to capture and share stories through my lens.
